The Czech Republic is gearing up to roll out its most extended trolleybus service between Nádraží Veleslavín metro station and Ruzyně Airport. The Prague Transport Company has announced that regular operations will commence this Wednesday afternoon. The first trip carrying passengers will embark from Terminal 1 towards Nádraží Veleslavín at 2:41 PM, with the return journey scheduled for 2:46 PM.
The Prague Transport Company is set to become the first operator of a high-capacity trolleybus in the Czech Republic. The vehicle, measuring nearly 25 meters, can accommodate 180 passengers. This innovative trolleybus aims to replace diesel bus 119, which often struggles to fit all passengers.
Since February of last year, 11.5 kilometers of trolley wire have been added between Nádraží Veleslavín and Terminal 3. The trolleybuses will use battery power between Terminal 3 and the airport, recharging at stations at Václav Havel Airport Prague and Nádraží Veleslavín. Charging infrastructure has also been established at Řepy garage, where the trolleybuses will be dispatched.
Twenty high-capacity, three-section, battery-powered Škoda-Solaris 24m trolleybuses have been supplied to the Prague Transport Company. The vehicles feature five doors for boarding and exiting and can hold 180 passengers, with 54 seats available. The trolleybus is equipped with air conditioning and four LED information panels and is specially designed for luggage transport.
The European Union funds the acquisition of these trolleybuses. The project aims to develop emission-free mobility in Prague’s public transport by replacing the current diesel articulated buses, which have high fuel consumption and produce significant emissions and noise.
