The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) has warned for high temperatures followed by severe thunderstorms. Wednesday’s temperatures are expected to exceed 31°C in lower and middle elevations due to a warm air influx from the southwest. On Thursday, thunderstorms are expected to occur primarily in the afternoon and evening, particularly in the southwestern half of Czech territory, where they could be severe.
These storms in the southwest could be accompanied by torrential rains totaling around 40 millimeters and in repeated storms, exceptionally, around 60 millimeters. “Smaller hail and stronger winds may also occur in the storms. Thunderstorm activity will weaken overnight into Friday,” stated the ČHMÚ.
More intense precipitation could occur on Friday in the northeastern half of the Czech Republic. The ČHMÚ has not yet precisely determined where higher precipitation totals will occur. Any additional warnings will be issued on Thursday.
Meteorologists emphasize the importance of being prepared for sudden weather changes. Residents are advised to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and heed any warnings issued by the ČHMÚ. High temperatures and severe storms could lead to hazardous conditions, including flash floods and strong winds.
The ČHMÚ also advises caution for those traveling or engaging in outdoor activities. It is essential to have a plan for seeking shelter quickly should severe weather develop. The public is encouraged to follow safety protocols and remain indoors during the peak of the storms.
In conclusion, while the warm weather may be welcomed by many, the potential for severe thunderstorms and heavy rainfall requires vigilance and preparedness. Stay safe and informed as these weather conditions unfold.
