The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) has issued an updated warning for strong thunderstorms expected to hit the southwestern part of the Czech Republic on Wednesday afternoon. This alert comes as part of the institute’s ongoing efforts to keep the public informed about potentially hazardous weather conditions.
According to meteorologists, a cold front will arrive in Bohemia from the west on Wednesday evening, bringing localized stronger thunderstorms, particularly to southwestern Bohemia. These storms are expected to be accompanied by wind gusts exceeding 65 km/h and heavy rainfall, with short-term precipitation amounts around 30 mm.
The warning is in effect from 5 PM to 10:30 PM on Wednesday for the entire South Bohemian Region, parts of the Central Bohemian Region, including the areas around Dobříš, Hořovice, Příbram, Sedlčany, and Votice, as well as the Pilsen Region, with the exception of Kralovice.
Meteorologists predict that the storms will weaken during the night from Wednesday to Thursday. However, they caution that heavy rainfall may cause localized flooding of underpasses, cellars, and minor watercourses.
In addition to the thunderstorm warning, a separate alert for high temperatures has been issued for parts of the Central Bohemian and Ústí nad Labem regions. This dual warning underscores the complex weather patterns currently affecting the Czech Republic and the importance of staying informed about local conditions.
Residents and visitors in the affected areas are advised to stay alert, follow local weather updates, and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during this period of unstable weather.
