In an unprecedented move, Czech Railways (České dráhy) has announced a customer-friendly policy in response to the ongoing severe weather conditions. Passengers holding tickets for domestic and international journeys from Friday to Sunday can now receive full refunds, even on the day of travel.
This extraordinary measure comes as heavy rains continue to batter the region, potentially disrupting rail services. Filip Medelský, the railway’s spokesperson, confirmed that customers can claim full refunds if they choose not to travel due to weather warnings, even if their tickets would normally be non-refundable on the day of travel.
The refund policy applies to tickets purchased at station counters, through the e-shop, or via the “Můj vlak” mobile application. This offer is exclusive to tickets bought under the Czech Railways tariff.
For tickets that would typically incur a cancellation fee, such as international tickets, passengers are advised to select “other” as the reason for refund in the e-shop or mobile app and specify “adverse weather” in their explanation. Those returning tickets at station counters should inform the clerk about the weather-related cancellation.
Czech Railways is also urging travelers to stay informed about potential service disruptions. The heavy rainfall may cause track damage or fallen trees on the lines. Up-to-date information on rail operations can be found on the Czech Railways website, the “Můj vlak” app, or their X (formerly Twitter) account.
