Prague’s bustling underground network is set for a significant upgrade this weekend, as the city’s transport authority embarks on a crucial maintenance project. From Saturday, October 26th to Monday, October 28th, Metro Line C will experience a partial shutdown between Muzeum and Kačerov stations, marking a brief but necessary pause in the city’s pulse.
At the heart of this operation is the replacement of wooden sleepers dating back to 1974. The Prague Public Transit Company (DPP) spokesperson, Aneta Řehková, has confirmed that 406 of these half-century-old components will be swapped out. The focus of this meticulous work will be the stretch between Vyšehrad and Pražského povstání stations, ensuring the continued safety and efficiency of one of Prague’s vital arteries.
To minimize disruption, the DPP has orchestrated a comprehensive replacement service. The XC bus line will step in to bridge the gap, ferrying passengers between Hlavní nádraží (Main Station) and Kačerov. This temporary measure aims to keep Prague moving despite the underground pause.
Commuters using bus lines 138, 189, 193, and 215 should note a slight change at Kačerov, where the boarding platform for Krč-bound services will be relocated to the front of the platform. This adjustment is part of the DPP’s efforts to streamline the flow of passengers during this period.
Understanding that such changes can be confusing, especially for visitors or infrequent travelers, the DPP is deploying information officers at key replacement bus stops. These staff members will be on hand to guide passengers, ensuring that everyone reaches their destination with minimal fuss.
While the disruption may cause temporary inconvenience, it represents Prague’s commitment to maintaining its world-class public transport system. As the city continues to grow and evolve, such upgrades are essential to keep pace with the demands of a modern metropolis.
