The Czech Republic has grown used to a rather warmer winter this year, with records even falling at the beginning of the year, but now comes the turning point when morning temperatures will drop to minus eight degrees and in some places it will freeze all day. There will also be snowfall. Meteorologist Dagmar Honsová informed about the weather forecast for the coming week.
“After Sunday’s passage of a significant cold front, there will be a break in the weather, and in the second half of the month, temperatures will return to January’s long-term normal. Snowflakes will gradually appear in the lowlands, morning temperatures will drop to minus eight degrees, and in places temperatures will remain below freezing throughout the day,” Honsová said.
She also warned of dangerous winter weather phenomena: “Ice may form at night and in the mornings, and frost may form in the second half of the week, and traffic may be complicated by snow from Wednesday onward. This weather will be influenced by the low pressure in our area, so there will be a lot of clouds and precipitation.”
On Monday, the skies will be partly cloudy to cloudy, with occasional fog. “Gradually, there will be a further increase in clouds to cloudy, and in the east we must gradually count on light precipitation – it will be mixed with or snow from about 400 m above sea level,” the meteorologist specified. The highest temperatures will be between 3 and 7 degrees.
Tuesday will bring cloudy skies with rain or showers in some places, especially in the eastern and southern half of the territory. Snow showers will fall in the central areas. Overnight temperatures will cool to 1 to -3 degrees, with daytime temperatures rising to 2 to 6 degrees.
Wednesday will be cloudy to overcast, with snow or snow showers in most of the area. Only in the lowlands will there be occasional rain and snow. Temperatures will drop to 1 to -3 degrees in the morning. Afternoon highs will be between 0 and 4 degrees.
The forecast for Thursday is for cloudy to overcast skies again, with snow showers in places. Overnight temperatures will drop to 0 to -4 degrees, but they could reach as low as -8 degrees with little cloud cover. During the day, temperatures will remain between -1 and 3 degrees.
On Friday, as well as Saturday and Sunday, it should be cloudy to partly cloudy, with snow or snow showers in places. Overnight temperatures will drop to -1 to -6 degrees, with isolated lows as low as -8 degrees. Afternoon highs will be between -2 and 2 degrees on Friday, with the range being a degree lower on other days.
