The city of Ústí nad Labem in northern Bohemia is still interested in acquiring hydrogen-powered buses, a refueling station, and an air purifier. This was confirmed by the mayor of Ústí nad Labem, Petr Nedvědický, after a meeting with representatives of the company Hydrogen Pro, which specializes in the production of hydrogen fuel cells and refueling stations.
According to Nedvědický, the city is currently looking into financing such a project, which is expected to cost several million crowns. The project would involve the acquisition of several hydrogen-powered buses, the construction of a refueling station, and the installation of an air purifier at the city’s bus station.
Hydrogen-powered buses are seen as an environmentally-friendly alternative to traditional diesel-powered buses. Hydrogen fuel cells produce only water vapor as a by-product, making them a clean energy source.
The city of Ústí nad Labem has already taken steps toward acquiring hydrogen-powered buses. In 2020, it signed a memorandum of cooperation with Solaris Bus & Coach, specializing in producing alternative fuel vehicles.
The city has also expressed interest in becoming a hub for the region’s production and distribution of hydrogen fuel. The city’s location near the German border and its proximity to major transport routes make it an ideal location for such a project.
The acquisition of hydrogen-powered buses, a refueling station, and an air purifier is part of the city’s broader strategy to reduce its carbon footprint and improve air quality.
