In a recent development, the Czech Parliament has unveiled its latest educational project, “Parlamentárium.” This initiative aims to provide the public with insights into the history and current workings of the legislative body. Located within Prague’s Šternberský Palace premises, Parlamentárium welcomes both school groups and registered individuals for guided tours.
The grand opening of Parlamentárium in the Chamber of Deputies took place on Wednesday. The project, which took four months to complete, has been designed to offer visitors an interactive and engaging experience. Its approximately 45 square meters house various exhibits, including a lectern where visitors can take photographs, models of the Parliament building and the assembly hall, and even video mapping projections.
Markéta Pekarová Adamová (TOP 09), the Speaker of the Chamber, expressed her enthusiasm for Parlamentárium’s mission to make the legislative process accessible to the public. She highlighted its role in bridging the gap between the Parliament’s past and present and its potential to provide a detailed understanding of the institution’s work. The inspiration for this project was drawn from similar ventures abroad.
Parlamentárium will become one of the stops on the guided tour circuit to ensure widespread access, primarily aimed at school groups. However, it will also open its doors to other interested individuals who can register for visits every Monday between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM. This initiative is part of the broader strategy to open the doors of the Chamber of Deputies to the general public.
The Šternberský Palace, with its rich historical significance, serves as an ideal location for Parlamentárium. The project’s cost, amounting to nearly two million Czech koruna, showcases the commitment of the Czech Parliament to fostering transparency and public engagement. The construction of this educational facility signifies a significant milestone towards achieving these goals.
Parlamentárium represents an exciting opportunity for visitors to delve into the inner workings of the Czech legislative body. By offering a unique and immersive experience, it enables individuals to understand the Parliament’s history, its functions, and its role in shaping the nation’s future. This initiative is crucial in strengthening public participation and fostering an informed citizenry.
