An elderly couple, living in a village near Konice in the Prostějov district, experienced moments of tremendous fear when a man broke into their house with an axe and barricaded himself in their bedroom. It turned out that he was under the influence of drugs.
“While the eighty-six-year-old senior citizen and his wife were watching TV at home on Tuesday afternoon, he suddenly heard banging from the hallway. The man got up and went to the front door to look. He saw a young man running past him to the first floor at the door. There, he locked himself in the bedroom. The senior called the man to open the door and leave immediately, but to no avail. All he heard was furniture being moved, “police spokesman Libor Hejtman described the incident.
He voluntarily left the room only when the police arrived. They found out that the 27-year-old man was under the influence of drugs.
“The young man said that about five days ago, he had used methamphetamine and cannabis. Since then, he had not slept and was suffering from hallucinations and delusions. He heard voices and believed he was being chased. He stated that he found the axe stuck in a log outside the house. He grabbed it, broke the locked front door of the couple’s home, ran inside, and barricaded himself in the bedroom, “the spokesman added.
After a medical examination, the man ended up in a police cell for the night. He is suspected of the misdemeanors of violating domestic liberty and damaging foreign property, for which he faces a prison sentence of six months to three years.
