Autumn Vacations on the Rise: Travelers Opt for Exotic Destinations and Luxury

Travel agencies are reporting increased interest in autumn and winter vacations abroad, with bookings up approximately 8% compared to last year. Following a successful summer season, Czech travelers are showing willingness to spend more, choosing luxurious resorts and additional activities. September travelers are primarily childless couples or retirees seeking more relaxed destinations after the peak season.

Croatia remains an attractive destination even in September, particularly for older couples who appreciate the milder temperatures and significantly lower prices. “Post-season prices are typically 20-30% lower,” explains Lenka Laus, project manager at Travel Family. During this period, visitors also benefit from reduced entrance fees to attractions and lower transportation costs.

Active vacations are gaining popularity, especially in destinations like the United Arab Emirates, where travelers can enjoy various water sports, professional training sessions, and guided excursions. According to Jan Bezděk, spokesperson for Fischer travel agency, exotic destinations have seen approximately a 10% increase compared to last winter season, with most clients choosing countries in the Persian Gulf region.

Czech travelers are increasingly viewing exotic destinations as a second summer vacation outside the main season – in October, November, or during winter months. Tourist demands for comfort are also rising, with multi-star hotels becoming the standard. “Czech tourists are treating themselves to premium, supplementary services in the more expensive, exotic destinations. These include private airport transfers or better rooms with sea views,” explains Kateřina Chaloupková, executive director of the Association of Travel Agencies.

More than 5.5 million Czechs travel abroad for vacation annually, with approximately 16% venturing beyond Europe. During autumn and winter, Czechs primarily travel during school breaks or extended weekends. The Christmas and New Year period is the busiest, with prices potentially 30% higher than during other months. The average expenditure for a longer trip is nearly 13,000 CZK per person domestically, while international travel costs increase to almost 22,000 CZK.
