Prague has initiated the construction of the final phase of Central Park in South City (Jižní Město). The previously undeveloped area is set to transform into a full-fledged urban park with comprehensive amenities for residents and visitors of the city’s eleventh district by the end of 2026.
The city council selected the construction contractor this March, with the completion of the unfinished space and creation of a proper urban park costing nearly 75 million Czech crowns. The project focuses on completing the central section, which comprises two-thirds of the total area and builds upon earlier renovation phases from 2012 and 2019.
According to Prague 11 district officials, the park has been developing gradually based on available annual budget allocations. The central space will concentrate leisure activities for social, sports, and recreational purposes for local residents – activities already taking place there informally.
“We’re cultivating parks, green spaces, and recreational areas throughout Prague, and this next phase of Central Park’s renewal in South City fits perfectly with this strategy,” stated Prague Mayor Bohuslav Svoboda. “Residents from surrounding neighborhoods will enjoy diverse relaxation facilities, including improved cycling paths, a new café, pavilion, grill area, and much more, including toilets.”
The ongoing work encompasses terrain modifications, construction of new paved areas, pathway and cycling route improvements, park lawn establishment, tree and plant planting, and building new public amenities. These include a café, storage facilities, restrooms, pavilion, amphitheater steps, perimeter wall, stage, mist feature, drinking fountain, grilling area, and new urban furniture.
Additionally, the project includes sewage connection, water supply with distribution throughout the area, public lighting, and preparations for decorative lighting. Construction began in July 2025 with completion expected by the end of 2026, approximately 15 months from now.
