The Czech construction industry has marked its sixth consecutive month of growth, with April showing a 1.9% year-on-year increase. However, when compared to March 2025, the sector experienced a 5% decline in production.
In the residential and non-residential building segment, construction activity rose by 1.8% compared to the previous year. Civil engineering projects, including road construction and utility infrastructure, demonstrated even stronger performance with a 2.3% increase.
Despite these positive indicators, there are some concerning trends in the sector. The estimated value of newly permitted construction projects dropped by 9.9%, primarily affecting large-scale projects valued over one billion Czech crowns. Petra Cuřínová from the Czech Statistical Office noted that smaller construction projects remained stable.
The housing sector shows mixed signals, with new housing starts experiencing a significant decline of 26.2%, totaling 2,688 units. The completion rate remained relatively stable, with 3,908 units finished, showing only a marginal decrease of 0.1% year-over-year.
