Czech Car Sales Surge, Škoda Dominates the Market

The sale of new passenger cars in the Czech Republic has increased by nearly 5% in the first seven months of this year, reaching 143,456 vehicles. July saw an impressive 20% boost in sales – the highest in six years, according to a recent report from the Automobile Importers Association.

Škoda Auto leads the market with a commanding 34.15% share, having registered 48,989 passenger vehicles from January through July. Hyundai follows in second place with 12,210 cars sold, while Toyota secured third position with 9,969 units. Volkswagen narrowly missed the third spot by just 159 registrations, with Kia rounding out the top five.

The Škoda Octavia continues to be the bestselling model with 11,025 units sold, followed by other Škoda models including the Kamiq (6,902) and Karoq (6,614). The Kodiaq, Fabia, and Scala from the same manufacturer also maintain strong positions in the market.

SUVs dominate the market with a 50.7% share among vehicle classes. Regarding fuel types, gasoline-powered vehicles lead with 67% of sales, while diesel accounts for 20.75%, and all-electric vehicles represent 5.56% of the market. Corporate purchases constitute 73% of all registrations.

While passenger car sales flourish, other vehicle categories have experienced declines. Light commercial vehicle registrations fell by 17.75% to 11,200 units, though July saw a 5% year-on-year increase. Toyota leads this segment, followed by Ford and Volkswagen. Truck sales decreased by 5% to 5,174 vehicles, with Mercedes-Benz, MAN, and Volvo claiming the top positions. Bus registrations dropped significantly by 28.37% to 500 vehicles, with Iveco Bus leading the category. Motorcycle sales also declined slightly by 3.24% to 19,074 units.
