The popular “To Work by Bike, Foot, or Jog” challenge kicks off its May edition across the Czech Republic today. The month-long initiative encourages sustainable commuting while promoting both mental and physical well-being.
Now in its 15th year, organized by the AutoMat association, this eco-friendly challenge has evolved into a comprehensive program with three annual phases – January, May, and September. The May edition, considered the flagship event, consistently attracts the highest participation.
What sets this challenge apart is its focus on consistency rather than distance. Open to participants aged 16 and above, the event welcomes both teams of two to five members and individual contestants. Many companies have embraced it as an innovative team-building opportunity, with 79% of participants having their registration fees covered by their employers.
The success of last year’s May challenge speaks volumes about its growing popularity – 25,355 participants from 55 cities and 1,794 organizations collectively covered an impressive 5.3 million kilometers, with 4.5 million of those on bicycles.
