Czech Electric Vehicle Sales Surge: Škoda Takes the Lead

Electric vehicles are gaining rapid popularity in the Czech Republic. From January through July, consumers purchased 7,980 battery-powered electric vehicles, representing a remarkable 60% increase compared to the same period last year. Škoda has emerged as the dominant brand in this growing market segment.

The market share of electric vehicles in the Czech automotive market has reached 5.6%, up from 4.2% during the same seven-month period last year. According to data from the Transport Research Centre, battery-powered electric vehicles now rank as the third most popular choice after gasoline and diesel engines, with plug-in hybrids capturing 4.1% of the market and LPG vehicles accounting for 2.6%.

Škoda has experienced the most significant year-on-year growth in the battery electric vehicle segment, securing a market share of 35.4% and establishing itself as the market leader. The Škoda Elroq has become the bestselling electric model in the country. Meanwhile, Tesla, which held the top position last year, has seen its sales decline by 37%, reducing its market share from 39.3% to 15.6%.
