Czech Entrepreneurs Break Growth Records in Early 2025

The Czech Republic has witnessed an unprecedented surge in entrepreneurship during the first quarter of 2025, with new business registrations outpacing the entire previous year’s growth. The country welcomed 10,327 new entrepreneurs, marking an eightfold increase compared to the same period last year, with 23,106 people starting businesses while 12,779 ceased their operations.

Prague leads the entrepreneurial charge, with 4,429 new business registrations, followed by the Central Bohemian region with 3,123 and the South Moravian region with 2,587 new entrepreneurs. The construction sector, manufacturing industry, and professional, scientific, and technical activities have emerged as the primary drivers of this growth.

The most dramatic growth was observed in mining and extraction, where for every 10 closed businesses, 60 new ones emerged. The cultural and recreational sector also showed remarkable vitality, with 49 new entrepreneurs for every 10 closures.

Demographic analysis reveals that while there’s an increasing trend of young entrepreneurs aged 18-30 closing their businesses, the majority of business closures occur among those over 61. Women maintain a consistent 38% representation in both new ventures and closures.
