Starting February, Czech Post will implement price increases for letter delivery services, with rates rising by 2-4 Czech crowns across different service categories. The most significant change affects the economy delivery option, where sending a letter weighing up to 50 grams will now cost 31 CZK, up from the previous 27 CZK.
The state-owned enterprise attributes these increases to rising operational costs, despite a continuing decline in letter volumes. Statistics show that mail volume has dropped by two-thirds over the past decade, reaching 105 million letters in 2023.
Pension recipients who collect their payments in cash through Czech Post will face a substantial increase, with fees jumping from 35 CZK to 78 CZK. Currently, approximately one-fifth of all pensions are still paid in cash.
For priority mail service, which guarantees next-day delivery, the price for letters up to 50 grams will increase from 34 to 36 CZK. Customers with loyalty cards can receive discounts of up to two crowns, particularly when sending multiple items.
The postal service, which has been operating at a loss in recent years with a deficit of three-quarters of a billion crowns in 2023, is scheduled for reorganization this year. The restructuring will split the company into a state-operated branch network and a commercial parcel delivery service called Balikovna.
