Czech Republic Welcomes First Summer Day of 2025

The Czech Republic is experiencing its first official summer day of the year today, April 16, with temperatures soaring above 25°C (77°F). The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) confirms these elevated temperatures are expected to rise even further throughout the afternoon.

Weather stations in the Moravian-Silesian, South Moravian, and Pilsen regions have officially recorded these summer-like conditions. Tomorrow’s forecast suggests even warmer weather, with temperatures potentially reaching 28°C (82°F) in lower-lying areas, though Thursday’s warmth might be tempered by Saharan dust moving into the region.

This year’s first summer day arrives later compared to 2024, which saw summer temperatures as early as April 1st. Last year was particularly noteworthy, with the first tropical day (temperatures exceeding 30°C/86°F) following just a week later on April 7th.

Climate experts note significant changes in temperature patterns over the past decades. According to Pavel Zahradníček from the CzechGlobe Institute, the timing of the first summer day has shifted forward by twelve days since 1961. The summer temperature season has extended by eighteen days compared to historical records.

While Easter holidays are expected to bring slightly cooler temperatures, they will remain above average for this time of year. Meanwhile, authorities have extended fire warnings across most of Bohemia and western Moravia due to the combination of dry conditions and moderate to fresh winds.
