A recent survey by ResponseNow reveals a dramatic shift in package delivery preferences, with 90% of urban Czechs aged 18-40 embracing delivery lockers as their go-to solution. Nearly two-thirds of respondents cite these lockers as their primary delivery method, while 28% still prefer in-store pickup, and only 6% opt for home delivery.
The overwhelming popularity of these lockers stems from their convenience, with 65% of users appreciating the flexible pickup times. Other benefits include simple collection processes, widespread availability, and swift delivery times. Environmental considerations and contactless pickup options also factor into consumers’ choices.
The Czech Republic now boasts over 12,000 delivery lockers, with 4,000 added in the past year alone. Market leader Alza dominates with their AlzaBox network, followed by competitors like Zásilkovna’s Z-Box, Balíkovna, and PPL Parcelbox.
Alza’s spokesperson, Eliška Čeřovská, emphasizes their commitment to sustainable growth, noting that their lockers reduce delivery routes by 30% compared to home delivery. The company’s innovative approach includes sharing their infrastructure with other delivery services, effectively reducing the need for multiple locker systems in one location.
In a move toward urban integration, Alza collaborates with architects and preservationists to ensure their lockers blend seamlessly with their surroundings. They’ve also implemented smart lighting systems that operate only during pickups between 10 PM and 6 AM, minimizing light pollution in residential areas.
