Prague’s newest infrastructure project is taking shape as the Dvorecký Bridge inches closer to connecting the Zlíchov and Podolí embankments across the Vltava River.
The bridge, designed with sustainability in mind, will be exclusively reserved for public transportation, cyclists, and pedestrians, with additional access granted to emergency vehicles.
However, the project has hit some stumbling blocks. Initially scheduled for completion at the turn of this year, construction work has been extended until January 2026. The delay comes hand in hand with a significant cost increase, as challenging geological conditions have pushed the budget from 972 million to 1.1 billion Czech crowns.
In an interesting twist, the bridge’s working title “Dvorecký” is likely to change. The city plans to name it after a notable female figure, with Prague residents getting a say in the final decision through a public survey.
