Prague’s beloved Easter markets are set to make their festive return this spring, with the main locations opening their doors on April 5th. The historic squares of Prague will transform into vibrant marketplaces, offering traditional Easter crafts, decorations, and local delicacies through April 27th.
This year’s markets will feature an innovative green touch, with raised flower beds adorning Staroměstské náměstí (Old Town Square). Visitors can expect to see blooming pansies, daffodils, tulips, and hyacinths, while decorative birch trees adorned with Easter eggs and ribbons will add to the springtime atmosphere.
The cultural program promises to be spectacular, with 500 adult performers and nearly 1,000 children scheduled to appear. Folk ensembles, brass bands, children’s choirs, and theater groups will provide entertainment across both main squares. Visitors can browse 71 stalls at Old Town Square and 32 at Wenceslas Square, offering everything from traditional Easter whips and painted eggs to ceramics and seasonal treats like lamb-shaped cakes and local pastries.
In a historic first, the Dvořák Embankment will join the Easter celebration, featuring a unique four-meter Easter rattle and mysterious water spirits. The market here will run from April 11th to May 10th, with special weekend activities including an Easter treat hunt for children.
This year’s celebrations emphasize sustainability and plastic reduction, proving that tradition can coexist with environmental consciousness. Whether you’re seeking traditional crafts, local delicacies, or simply the joy of spring in one of Europe’s most beautiful cities, Prague’s Easter markets offer something for everyone.
