Households signing new energy contracts are seeing significant savings compared to last January, with some families saving up to 17,000 Kč annually on their combined gas and electricity bills. The decrease primarily affects households using gas for cooking, water heating, and home heating, while maintaining typical electricity consumption patterns.
The price reduction is largely attributed to lower gas and electricity wholesale prices. While the savings could have been even more substantial, the new year brought increases in regulated charges, monthly fixed payments, and circuit breaker fees.
For families using gas for cooking and water heating, the annual savings average around 9,000 Kč. Those who also use gas for heating, consuming approximately 3,000 cubic meters annually, are seeing even greater benefits with average savings of 15,000 Kč. When comparing the lowest current offer with the highest rates from last January, the difference can reach up to 30,000 Kč.
Experts currently recommend locking in rates, preferably with one-year contracts. According to Lukáš Kaňok from Kalkulator.cz, fixed-rate contracts are significantly more economical than variable-rate agreements, with customers saving approximately 1,000 Kč per megawatt-hour on electricity and 500 Kč on gas.
Market analysts warn that these favorable prices might not last. According to Tomáš Vrňák from Usetreno.cz, gas prices could increase throughout the year, potentially reaching over 1,200 Kč per megawatt-hour (excluding VAT), compared to current offers below 1,100 Kč.
