In a welcome development for consumers, the Energy Regulatory Office has announced substantial reductions in energy prices starting January 2025. Households can expect to see their annual energy bills decrease by thousands of crowns, with electricity costs dropping by 10 percent and gas prices falling by 8.8 percent.
According to ERU Council Chairman Stanislav Trávníček, the decrease affects the total electricity payments, including the power component, due to lower electricity costs. Similarly, gas payments will see a reduction thanks to decreased gas prices.
The savings will vary depending on consumption levels. Apartments with low consumption of around two megawatt-hours annually can expect to save about 1,000 crowns, while families using 3.6 megawatt-hours will see savings of approximately 3,000 crowns compared to early 2024. Households using electricity for heating, with consumption of 7.6 MWh, could save up to 7,500 crowns.
For gas users, families who use gas for cooking, water heating, and home heating will save nearly 4,500 crowns annually, while houses with gas installations can expect savings of about 7,500 crowns.
However, the savings could have been even greater if not for an increase in the regulated component of prices. Starting January, households will face a 1.4 percent increase in regulated electricity costs, with gas seeing an even higher rise. This increase is attributed to necessary investments in new power sources, energy transformation, and declining grid usage.
