First Heat Wave of 2025 Breaks Records Across the Country

In an unprecedented weather event, temperatures soared above 20°C (68°F) for the first time this year, marking an unusually warm start to March. Seven weather stations recorded these springlike temperatures shortly before 1 PM today, with Karviná leading the pack by surpassing 21°C (69.8°F).

The remarkable warmth is attributed to a high-pressure system over southeastern Europe, which is channeling warm air masses into the region and shattering temperature records along the way. Wednesday had already set the stage as the warmest day of the year, but Thursday proved even more exceptional.

According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ), these temperatures are just the beginning, with expectations for even higher readings later in the afternoon and evening. The unusual warmth has already broken numerous records, with Wednesday seeing new temperature highs at 51% of stations that have been measuring for at least 30 years.
