Flying from Prague to Become More Pleasant: Liquid Restrictions Partially Lifted Starting October

Prague Airport is introducing a welcome change starting October 1st. Thanks to modern CT scanners at Terminal 2, passengers will enjoy significantly relaxed rules for carrying liquids in hand luggage. Travelers can now bring one container of up to two liters onboard, regardless of whether it’s cosmetics or a beverage. However, rules at Terminal 1, serving flights outside the Schengen Area, remain unchanged.

Václav Havel Airport announced this development in a press release, noting that it follows a trend observed at several other European airports this year. “During summer months, passengers already experienced greater satisfaction at security checkpoints since they no longer needed to remove electronics or liquids from their hand luggage after we installed CT scanners in Terminal 2. Now we’re also allowing larger quantities of liquids, which is a significant step forward,” stated Martin Kučera, Prague Airport board member responsible for operations and security.

Starting October 1st, passengers can bring one container of up to two liters in addition to their regular allowance. The remaining liquids must still follow previous rules – maximum 100ml containers stored in one transparent one-liter bag. Terminal 1 rules remain unchanged, with liquids over 100ml still prohibited.

This rules change is possible thanks to six modern CT scanners currently available at Terminal 2, with plans to purchase two more next year. “Our goal is to continuously analyze operations and, if results are positive, gradually allow more liquid volume. We believe even this partial change provides significant benefits for travelers,” added Kučera.

Travelers should remember that rules applying in Prague might not apply at foreign airports, so it’s necessary to verify information before return journeys. Checked luggage going into the aircraft’s cargo hold naturally remains exempt from liquid restrictions.
