Foreign Tourism in Czech Republic Shows Modest Growth

The Czech Republic’s tourism sector demonstrated resilience in the first quarter of this year, with a total of 4.15 million tourists staying in hotels, guesthouses, and campsites, marking a 1.4% increase year-over-year. According to the Czech Statistical Office (ČSÚ), this growth reflects positive trends in both domestic and international visitor numbers.

Roman Mikula from ČSÚ reported that domestic residents accounted for 2.2 million visitors, while international tourists reached 2 million. The data shows a 1.9% increase in foreign visitors and a 1% rise in domestic tourists. During the January-March period, total overnight stays reached 10.5 million, representing a 0.6% year-over-year increase.

Germany leads the international visitor statistics with 453,000 tourists, followed by significant numbers from Poland, Slovakia, the United Kingdom and Northern Ireland, and Italy, with the latter bringing over 100,000 visitors. Notably, Poland, the UK, and Ukraine showed the highest year-over-year growth among the top ten countries, while Israeli tourists recorded the most substantial increase in both visitor numbers and overnight stays.

Regional analysis reveals varying patterns across the country. While most regions experienced growth, the Central Bohemian, South Moravian, Pilsen, and South Bohemian regions saw slight decreases. The Pardubice region led the growth charts, followed by strong performances in the Hradec Králové, Moravian-Silesian, and Liberec regions.
