Thursday morning brought unusually chilly conditions across the region. While most areas experienced temperatures between 5°C and 10°C, mountain locations saw the mercury drop below freezing.
According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute, Prague city center and Ústí nad Labem recorded the warmest morning temperatures at 12°C. Meanwhile, mountain frost hollows faced significantly colder conditions, with nine weather stations reporting sub-zero temperatures.
The coldest reading came from Kvilda-Perla station, which registered a frigid -4.1°C. Outside mountain regions, Šindelová, Obora station recorded the lowest temperature at 3.2°C. Temperature records fell at eight stations (5%) that have been monitoring conditions for at least 30 years, though most long-term stations still maintain records for this date from 1987.
Live panoramic camera footage captured the morning conditions across various locations, providing real-time visual confirmation of the unusual August chill.
Despite the cold start, forecasters predict a pleasant turnaround for the remainder of the day. Mostly clear to partly cloudy skies are expected with afternoon highs reaching between 24°C and 28°C. Mountain areas should warm to around 17°C, with temperatures in the Šumava region potentially climbing to 21°C.
