Frost Warnings and Mountain Snow: Czech Republic Braces for a Cold Week Ahead

The Czech Republic is preparing for an unusually cold week with morning fog, low cloud cover, and ground frost making an appearance across the country. While afternoons may bring partially clear skies, precipitation will be limited, primarily occurring on Wednesday when mountain regions can expect snowfall.

Cold continental air from the northeast is flowing into the Czech Republic along the front side of a high-pressure system centered over northeastern Europe. Weather conditions will be partially influenced by a low-pressure system in the upper atmosphere, bringing increased cloud cover and local precipitation to the northeastern territories on Wednesday. Areas above 1000 meters can expect rain mixed with snow or pure snowfall.

Daily temperature highs will struggle to reach between 10-15°C in lowland areas due to the influx of cold eastern air, with even cooler conditions expected in the northeast. Ground frost will become increasingly common, particularly in areas where clouds temporarily break. A change is anticipated during the weekend, with precipitation arriving from a newly formed low-pressure system over the North Sea, bringing moderate warming from the west and southwest.

The weekly forecast shows consistently cool conditions. Monday will see partly cloudy skies with morning fog patches and temperatures between 2-7°C, with ground frost in some locations. Daytime temperatures will reach 12-16°C with light showers moving in from the northeast, particularly affecting Silesia and parts of eastern Bohemia. Tuesday continues the trend with cold mornings (2-6°C) and daytime highs of only 10-14°C, with mountain regions in the northeast experiencing showers that may turn to snow above 1000 meters.

Wednesday through Friday will maintain the cold pattern with morning temperatures frequently approaching freezing and afternoon highs remaining between 8-12°C. Thursday and Friday mornings may see temperatures drop to -1°C in areas with clear skies. Snow showers will continue to affect mountain regions above 1000 meters through midweek.

According to numerical weather models, the weekend will bring cloudy to overcast skies with occasional showers as a low-pressure system moves in. Morning temperatures will moderate slightly to 3-8°C, while daytime highs will reach 10-14°C, gradually climbing to 17°C by Sunday. There’s hope for warmer conditions by early the following week, with some models suggesting afternoon temperatures around 20°C, primarily in Bohemia.
