Health Challenges Affect One in Seven Czechs: Insurance Offers Financial Relief

According to recent data from the Czech Statistical Office, approximately 1.3 million people in the Czech Republic – representing 15% of the population – face challenges with self-sufficiency due to health limitations. The impact is substantial, with nearly one million people experiencing mobility issues, while over half a million deal with internal organ diseases.

The financial burden of managing these health challenges is significant. Despite receiving state benefits, almost a quarter of affected individuals struggle to afford necessary assistive devices and support services. Daily activities like transportation, household chores, and shopping pose the greatest difficulties, with over 827,000 people requiring regular assistance from others.

Insurance companies are stepping up to address this gap. NN Life Insurance leads the market as the only provider offering comprehensive coverage for all levels of care dependency. Their innovative approach includes coverage for both minor and severe cases of dependency, with monthly benefits ranging from 12,000 to 15,000 Czech crowns for more serious cases.

The insurance landscape is diverse, with providers like Kooperativa, Generali Czech Insurance, and Czech Business Insurance offering various coverage options. Monthly premiums vary by age, typically ranging from a few hundred crowns for younger clients to about two thousand for seniors. Notably, insurance for the two highest degrees of care dependency qualifies for tax deductions up to 48,000 crowns.
