The Railway Administration has finalized plans for a high-speed rail line through Prague 15 and Dolní Měcholupy, with trains set to run primarily underground through short tunnels and open cuts. The project represents a compromise solution agreed upon by the Prague City Hall and affected districts.
The route between Rabakovská Street and Malý Háj went through three possible designs – tunnel, subsurface, and above-ground. The subsurface option won approval for its balanced approach to technical feasibility, cost-effectiveness, and minimal impact on surrounding development.
Local officials have welcomed the decision. Prague 15 Mayor Michal Fischer sees it as a functional and cost-effective solution, while Dolní Měcholupy’s Mayor Jiří Jindřich appreciates that the track will run in a cutting and through tunnels near a planned park connecting old and new parts of the municipality.
The project, scheduled to begin construction in 2030, aims to revolutionize travel across the Czech Republic and Europe. Trains will reach speeds of up to 320 km/h outside Prague and 160 km/h within the city limits.
