A once-celebrated castle garden in Vyškov, which previously served as inspiration for the famous Flower Garden in Kroměříž, is about to undergo a major transformation. The currently empty meadow is scheduled for completion by autumn 2026, marking a return to its former glory.

The multi-million crown renovation project will feature perennial flower beds, new pathways with benches, shaded seating areas, water fountains, and children’s play areas. The garden, dominated by an arcade loggia dating back to 1673, has been awaiting this extensive renovation for decades.

Roman Celý, Vyškov’s deputy mayor, emphasized the need for change: “The area has exhausted its potential and needs a new impulse. We want to transform the garden into a truly worthwhile destination for public walks”. The project includes landscaping and planting 75 new trees, with perennial beds designed to enhance the historic loggia’s unique character.

Before the renovation begins, several trees will need to be removed, including an oak that failed to create the intended columnar alley, diseased hornbeams, and a critically deteriorating small-leaved linden. Replacement plantings are scheduled for completion by October of next year.

The investment appears promising, as demonstrated by similar projects in the region. The Lysice Castle garden’s renovation, costing 194 million crowns, resulted in a tripled visitor count, with over 90,000 people visiting last year – the highest number since its public opening in the 1960s.
