Meteorologists Extend Heat Wave and Fire Risk Warnings Across Czech Republic

As a scorching heat wave continues to grip the Czech Republic, the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) has extended warnings for dangerously high temperatures across nearly the entire country. The institute issued expanded alerts on Tuesday, with temperatures expected to soar above 34°C (93°F) in Bohemia.

According to meteorologists, a strong influx of hot air from the south will intensify over the coming days, offering no respite from the tropical temperatures. Tuesday’s temperatures are forecast to exceed 31°C across most of Bohemia, with some areas potentially reaching 34°C.

Thursday brings even more concerning predictions, with an orange warning in effect for much of Bohemia and a yellow warning covering almost all Czech territory. “In the afternoon and evening, temperatures will exceed 31°C throughout nearly the entire Czech Republic. In Bohemia, excluding the northeast, they’ll surpass 34°C, with some lowland areas potentially reaching as high as 37°C (98.6°F),” meteorologists warn.

The tropical heat will persist into Thursday, with the highest temperatures shifting to Moravia and Silesia, where readings could again exceed 34°C. Forecasters indicate that warning details for Thursday will be refined as the day approaches.

Beyond the extreme heat, ČHMÚ has also highlighted an elevated risk of wildfires. The combination of high temperatures and drought conditions has created dangerous fire conditions across Bohemia, with warning zones expected to expand into Moravia and Silesia as the heat wave continues.

Relief may finally arrive Thursday afternoon with the first rainfall, followed by a slight cooling trend expected Friday. Until then, residents are advised to take precautions against both the heat and potential fire hazards.
