In an unexpected turn of weather events, meteorologists have extended and updated their warning for strong winds across the Czech Republic. The alert now stretches into Friday, particularly affecting the northern regions of the country and the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands.
According to the Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ), Thursday will see southeastern wind gusts reaching up to 70 kilometers per hour in parts of northern Bohemia and the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands. The institute further predicts that similar wind speeds will persist in certain areas of the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands and the Frýdlant region until Friday evening, with a slight weakening expected during Thursday evening and night.
The wind warning will remain in effect until Thursday evening for parts of the Vysočina, Ústí nad Labem, Liberec, South Bohemian, and Central Bohemian regions. However, the alert extends until 6 PM on Friday for most of the Vysočina region and parts of the Central Bohemian, Liberec, and Pardubice regions.
Interestingly, despite the strong winds, the weekend forecast looks promising. After the morning fog dissipates, residents can look forward to sunny weather with pleasant temperatures. This is due to the southeastern wind in the upper layers of the atmosphere, which is circulating around a high-pressure system to the north.
The impact of these strong winds has already been felt. On Tuesday night, firefighters in the Liberec and Pardubice regions were kept busy, primarily dealing with fallen tree branches. Residents are advised to stay informed about local weather updates and take necessary precautions.
