Meteorologists Tighten Warning: Today’s Storms Will Be Very Severe

Meteorologists have revised their warning for thunderstorms expected to hit parts of the country this Thursday afternoon and evening. According to their updated forecast, the country’s western regions could face severe storms with torrential rains, increasing precipitation to 80 millimetres. On Friday, the northern parts of the country are also expected to experience heavy and persistent rainfall.

The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) has indicated that these thunderstorms could be accompanied by heavy downpours, with rainfall amounts of around 50 millimetres and up to 80 millimetres in cases of repeated storms. Smaller hail and stronger winds are also possible during these severe weather events.

The warning extends to Karlovy Vary, Plzeň, and parts of the South Bohemian Region. In addition, strong thunderstorms are anticipated in Prague, the remaining parts of the South Bohemian Region, and parts of the Ústí, South Moravian, and Central Bohemian regions. In these areas, rainfall amounts are expected to range between 40 and 60 millimetres, with maximum amounts occurring during repeated storms.

The thunderstorms are predicted to move east and northeast over the course of the period, gradually weakening overnight into Friday. Continued rainfall is expected on Friday, with meteorologists warning for heavy rainfall in northern regions. Areas within the Ústí, Liberec, and Hradec Králové regions could see rainfall amounts between 30 and 50 millimetres throughout the day.

ČHMÚ has also warned that the persistent heavy rains could result in localized flooding. Residents in the affected areas are advised to stay alert and take necessary precautions to protect themselves and their property.

The sudden and severe weather changes underscore the importance of staying informed about weather conditions and being prepared for potential emergencies. As weather patterns continue to fluctuate, it remains crucial for individuals to heed meteorological warnings and stay updated on the latest forecasts.
