Prague residents must brace for another transportation disruption, this time affecting Line B of the metro for two consecutive weekends. The silver lining is that tram service to Bílá Hora will resume two weeks earlier than planned, starting this weekend.
“Due to essential additional work on the ongoing revitalization of Českomoravská station, metro service on Line B will be suspended in both directions between Florenc and Vysočanská stations during this and next weekend, specifically August 16-17 and August 23-24, 2025,” explained Aneta Řehková, spokesperson for the transport company.
Passengers affected by the closure will be served by replacement tram service XB. Alternative transportation options include tram line 12, and between Florenc and Palmovka, lines 3 and 8. To ensure sufficient capacity in this heavily trafficked section, Czech Railways will operate a special train line S2X from Masaryk Station via Praha-Vysočany and Praha-Rajská zahrada to Praha-Horní Počernice and back.
“These trains will use CityElefant units with a seating capacity of 310,” said Petr Pošta from Czech Railways’ communications department. The reinforcement trains will depart from Masaryk Station at the 1st and 31st minute of each hour between 6:01 and 22:01, with return journeys from Horní Počernice at the 2nd and 35th minute from 6:02 to 22:02.
For passengers traveling from Rajská zahrada to the city center, this means intervals of just a few minutes between some train connections, with the added benefit of being able to choose between Masaryk or the main railway station as their destination. The train service offers a faster and higher-capacity alternative for those traveling from central Prague to Vysočany and more distant Prague districts including Hloubětín, Černý Most, and Horní Počernice.
Good news awaits passengers in the western part of the city, as tram track repairs in the Bílá Hora area have been completed two weeks ahead of schedule. “Regular tram service in the Vypich – Bílá Hora section will resume from the morning departure this Saturday, August 16. However, since TSK’s roadwork on Karlovarská Street continues, bus service modifications will remain in effect until the end of August,” added Řehková.
