More Black Ice Expected Tuesday Morning, Meteorologists Warn

The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) has issued a new warning for black ice formation expected Tuesday morning and throughout the morning hours. While the conditions are not predicted to be as severe as the freezing rain event that occurred from Sunday to Monday, commuters should still prepare for potential transportation disruptions.

A cold front will move across the region overnight, with local rainfall potentially creating hazardous icy conditions. The risk of black ice formation is particularly high in the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands and parts of eastern Bohemia and Moravia during Tuesday’s morning hours, with some areas possibly maintaining icy conditions into the afternoon.

The weather alert will be in effect from 5:00 AM to 1:00 PM Tuesday, covering parts of the Vysočina, South Moravian, Pardubice, and Olomouc regions.

The warning comes on the heels of significant disruptions caused by black ice from Sunday evening through Monday morning, which affected most of the territory. The freezing conditions not only made roads treacherous but also impacted public transportation, with electric trains and trams experiencing difficulties due to frozen overhead lines.
