Mother Could Face 5-Year Prison Sentence After Child Misses 728 School Hours Without Excuse

A schoolboy from Uherske Hradiste has missed 728 hours of school without an excuse between September 2019 and January of this year. The police now suspect his 48-year-old mother of endangering the upbringing of a child, for which she faces up to five years in prison. Police Commissioner Radomir Siska announced this on Friday.

According to the police, the woman neglected her son’s regular and proper school attendance. “She did not supervise his preparation for school and did not respect the conditions for excusing him from classes, thus not leading her son to a proper education,” said Siska.

The woman has reportedly been punished in the past for similar behavior

The same is true for a 39-year-old mother and a 54-year-old father from Uherske Hradiste, who is also suspected of endangering the upbringing of their underage daughter. “During the 2020/2021 and 2021/2022, the girl missed 262 school hours,” said Siska. Her parents also face up to five years in prison.
