A striking weather contrast is set to define the coming days, as meteorologist Dagmar Honsová reveals a classic winter inversion pattern. While mountain peaks will bask in glorious sunshine, lowland areas will remain shrouded in fog and low clouds, with temperatures hovering just above freezing.
“The mountains will offer spectacular conditions with azure skies and up to eight hours of sunshine. Temperatures at 1000 meters elevation will reach around 5°C, thanks to warm air flow in the upper atmosphere, with temperatures at the 850 hPa level climbing to 10°C,” explains Honsová. This favorable forecast is expected to draw crowds to mountain resorts over the weekend.
The weather pattern will establish itself Thursday under high pressure, bringing overcast conditions and fog to lower elevations, with occasional freezing fog. Mountain areas will enjoy clear skies, while some northwestern and southeastern regions might see occasional breaks in the cloud cover. Afternoon temperatures will range from 0 to 4°C, though it will feel colder.
The weekend outlook remains consistent with this pattern. Saturday through Sunday will see clear to partly cloudy skies, with persistent fog and low clouds in some areas. Morning temperatures will dip to between -6°C and 0°C, while daytime highs will reach 2-7°C, though areas under persistent cloud cover will remain cooler.
The pattern is expected to break by Wednesday, with cloudy conditions and precipitation in the form of rain, freezing rain, or snow, marking a shift in the weather pattern.
