Starting Monday, Náchod will monitor the speeds of passing cars at three locations. Drivers who exceed the speed limit will be subject to fines. The main reason for implementing these measures is to increase safety and reduce traffic in this city of twenty thousand inhabitants.
At two locations, instant speed measurements will be taken, while a stretch of road will be monitored at one location. The speed limit at all three locations is 50 kilometers per hour. Until now, automatic speed measurements were not enforced in Náchod.
The first location for instant speed measurement is at the entrance to Náchod on the I/33 road from Hradec Králové on Českoskalická Street, in a location called Rybárna. The instant speed will also be measured by radar on Kostelecká Street near Plhov Elementary School on the I/14 road, coming from Červený Kostelec towards Náchod.
The stretch speed monitoring in both directions will be in the district of Malé Poříčí on Broumovská Street on the II/303 road leading from Náchod to Hronov.
While the monitoring locations will not have vertical traffic signs warning of speed measurement, there will be a digital speed indicator in front of each location that will prompt speeding drivers to slow down. The system will also be able to monitor vehicle traffic and subsequently provide information to the police, such as when searching for cars or persons.
The city spent nearly five million Czech korunas on the system. To manage the increased workload associated with issuing fines, the city initially hired two employees for the transportation department. Based on experiences from other cities, the city council estimates that the investment will be recouped within one year.
