The Czech automotive market showed strong performance in 2024, with total new car sales reaching 231,600 units, marking a 4.6% increase from the previous year. According to the Car Importers Association, while companies dominated purchases, individual buyers accounted for a quarter of all sales.
Škoda Auto maintained its market leadership with a commanding one-third market share, delivering 78,000 vehicles. Hyundai and Toyota secured the second and third positions with over 20,000 and 19,000 units sold respectively, followed by Volkswagen with more than 15,000 units and Kia with nearly 11,000 vehicles.
The Škoda Octavia emerged as the bestselling model, with almost 20,000 units sold. Other popular models in the lineup included the Karoq, Kodiaq, Kamiq, Scala, and Fabia. The Hyundai i30, Škoda Superb, Hyundai Tucson, and Kia CEED rounded out the top ten.
SUVs dominated the market, accounting for half of all sales, followed by lower-medium and medium-class vehicles. In terms of fuel types, gasoline-powered vehicles led with two-thirds of sales, while diesel vehicles represented a quarter of purchases. Electric vehicles made up nearly 5% of total sales.
The electric vehicle segment showed remarkable growth, with sales surging 65% to reach almost 11,000 units. Tesla, Škoda, and Volvo were the top choices among EV buyers. The government’s “Záruka” program, which provided businesses with 200,000 crowns in subsidies, significantly boosted EV adoption, supporting the purchase of approximately 6,500 electric vehicles.
