North Moravia’s Largest Fireworks Display Goes Silent for Wildlife

In a groundbreaking move toward environmental consciousness, Ostrava-Jih district is set to introduce its first-ever partially silent fireworks display for New Year’s celebrations. The initiative, announced by district spokesperson Bronislava Supíková, marks a significant shift in how the region’s largest New Year’s celebration will be conducted. The display, scheduled for 6 PM at the Hrabůvka roundabout, will be extended by five minutes compared to previous years. It will feature a unique combination of traditional fireworks alongside a new silent pyrotechnic display, creating a spectacular visual show without the usual thunderous accompaniment.

While the fireworks display has been a beloved tradition with predominantly positive feedback, authorities acknowledge growing concerns about its impact on animals and the environment. The innovative silent portion will showcase a light show complemented by smoke effects, completely eliminating sound disruption.”We understand that New Year’s celebrations can be challenging for pets and sensitive individuals,” explains the spokesperson. “However, this organized display offers a predictable alternative to random fireworks throughout the year, allowing residents to prepare accordingly”.

If successful, this eco-friendly approach could pave the way for more environmentally conscious celebrations in the future.
