Ostrava Airport Soars to New Heights with Record-Breaking Passenger and Cargo Numbers

Leoš Janáček Ostrava Airport has achieved unprecedented success in 2024, handling a historic 493,000 passengers and processing over 22,000 tons of cargo. This remarkable performance represents a 44% increase in passenger traffic compared to 2023.

The airport’s expansion strategy has paid off handsomely, with the introduction of thirteen new destinations to its network. Popular additions include Mediterranean hotspots like Málaga and Podgorica, along with exotic destinations such as Mauritius and Thailand’s Phuket, which launched its services in December. The airport now serves an impressive total of 31 destinations.

Egypt, Greece, and Turkey emerged as the top destinations, with Antalya, Marsa Alam, Hurghada, Burgas, and London leading the pack in passenger preferences. The airport maintains regular connections with Warsaw, Málaga, and Podgorica.

Looking ahead, Ryanair is set to expand its services from late March, introducing flights to Girona, Spain. The London route will operate four times weekly, while Málaga flights will run on Mondays and Fridays, and Girona services will operate on Wednesdays and Sundays.

The cargo sector has shown equally impressive growth, with a 59% year-over-year increase. The airport currently operates regular cargo flights to Leipzig, Cologne, Tashkent, China, and Almaty in Kazakhstan, with plans to expand routes to Georgia and China in the coming year.
