Parcel Locker Network Set to Expand by 3,000 Units This Year

The self-service parcel locker landscape in the Czech Republic is experiencing significant growth, with plans to add approximately 3,000 new units to last year’s 12,000 installations. Beyond mere expansion, this year’s focus shifts toward strategic placement, aesthetic design, and increased sharing among delivery services.

Major players are actively contributing to this expansion. Zásilkovna aims to increase their Z-Box count from 4,400 to 5,200, while Alza plans to add over 1,000 new boxes to their existing network of 2,500. PPL currently operates 1,200 boxes, and GLS maintains 1,005 self-service locations with significant expansion planned.

The demand for these services is evident in consumer behavior. According to GLS analysis, only 24% of online shoppers don’t use parcel lockers, primarily seniors and residents of small towns without access to these facilities. In major Czech cities, 78% of residents have a delivery box within 500 meters of their home.

Addressing aesthetic concerns, companies are now working with architects and urban planners to ensure these facilities blend seamlessly into the urban landscape. Alza, for instance, has introduced innovative solutions such as installing boxes inside buildings or incorporating them into existing walls and fences. In historical districts, they opt for subtle grey branding to maintain visual harmony with the surroundings.
