Prague’s ambitious City Ring Road project is taking a significant step forward. City representatives have smoothly approved a contract for detailed geotechnical survey and route monitoring, marking a crucial phase in the development of this major infrastructure project.

The planned sections will connect Troja to Vysočany and extend to Strašnice. The exploratory tunnels will assess conditions for three major tunnel constructions – Bílá Skála, Jarov, and Malešice – spanning over eight kilometers across two key sections: Pelc/Tyrolka – U kříže and Balabenka – Rybníčky.

Deputy Mayor Zdeněk Hřib (Pirates) confirmed that these preliminary tunnels will follow the exact path of future tunnels, albeit with a smaller diameter. The contract, valued at 315 million crowns, is scheduled to run from the third quarter of 2025 through 2028.

Learning from past experiences with the Blanka tunnel complex, authorities are implementing thorough building surveys in the affected areas. “Building documentation proved crucial during the Blanka tunnel construction, where we experienced a partial collapse in Stromovka. With this project running through densely populated areas, such documentation becomes even more critical,” Hřib emphasized.

The project, which received unanimous support from all 38 present council members, will complete the missing sections of the City Ring Road, connecting to the Blanka tunnel complex that opened in 2015. The entire project encompasses 10.5 kilometers, mostly underground, featuring two lanes in each direction with separate tunnel tubes for each direction.
