Prague’s District 10 is embarking on an ambitious renovation project around the Strašnická metro station, with plans to create a more accessible and vibrant public space. The district has launched a tender worth 85 million Czech crowns (excluding VAT) for both design documentation and construction work.

The project will unfold in two phases, beginning with the renovation of sidewalks and parking spaces along Starostrašnická Street near the tram depot. The main phase will focus on revamping the metro station’s surroundings and adjacent courtyard area, including new surface treatments, benches, and green spaces.

According to Jiří Zákostelný, head of District 10’s chief architect office, the vision is to create a more user-friendly space by leveling out the current terrain irregularities into a single inclined plane. The renovated area will feature modern urban amenities including bike racks, waste bins, and a water feature in the central area.

Mayor Martin Valovič has outlined plans for new tree-lined areas with green terraces offering shaded seating. The space will also accommodate a market area, meeting spaces, and amenities such as a book-sharing station and refreshment stands.

The transport company is planning to add a barrier-free elevator to the metro station, which has been operating since 1987. The new elevator system will connect the platform with the transfer corridor and surface level, emerging in the nearby park. Construction is scheduled for 2027-2028.
