Prague’s public transportation network is set to undergo a major expansion with the addition of 70 new trolleybuses. The city’s transport company has signed a contract that will complement the existing trolleybus lines 58 and 59, marking a significant step toward the electrification of selected bus routes.
Turkish manufacturer Bozankaya Otomotiv secured the contract worth 1.099 billion Czech crowns (excluding VAT). The framework agreement allows for the purchase of these eco-friendly vehicles over the next five years.
The new Bozankaya SNG T12 trolleybuses are designed with passenger comfort in mind. Each 12-meter vehicle is fully wheelchair accessible and can accommodate up to 82 passengers, with 32 seated positions. The vehicles meet all Prague Integrated Transport quality standards and comply with both Czech and EU regulations.
Infrastructure development is already underway, with construction for bus line 137’s electrification having started last August. The project includes the installation of 37 outdoor charging stations at the Řepy garage, with four additional lines scheduled for electrification in the coming years.
The vehicles come equipped with modern amenities including air conditioning, heat pump heating systems, passenger counting technology, and comprehensive camera systems for interior monitoring and safety. Each trolleybus is backed by a ten-year warranty and is expected to serve Prague’s residents for at least fifteen years.
