The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (CHMI) has modified its storm warning for Monday, completely lifting alerts in western Bohemia while downgrading the warning level in eastern regions. The southeastern part of the Czech Republic remains under high-risk alert, with the warning period now starting at 2:00 PM.
According to meteorologists, the northwestern half of the country will experience isolated thunderstorms with occasional intensity, bringing torrential rainfall of around 30mm and hail up to 2cm in diameter. The situation appears more serious in the southeastern regions, where evening storms are expected to be more organized and potentially severe, featuring larger hailstones (around 3cm), intensive rainfall of approximately 40mm, and occasional strong wind gusts reaching 90 km/h.
The Institute has also issued a cautionary note about the risk of local flooding, particularly warning that flash floods might occur in smaller waterways during heavy rainfall.
While Monday’s forecast initially appeared more severe, meteorologists have since scaled back their predictions. The adjustment includes pushing back the start time of the warning period and reducing the high-risk alert area.
Looking ahead, Tuesday will see minimal storm activity, though another round of severe storms is anticipated by Wednesday.
