Snow Falls in Czech Mountains as Cold Front Sweeps Through

A wintry surprise has descended upon the Czech mountains as a cold front moving across the country brought snowfall to the peaks of the Krkonoše and Jeseníky mountain ranges.

The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) reported snowfall at elevations above 1,000-1,100 meters in the northern and northeastern regions during the morning hours. The iconic Sněžka peak, the country’s highest point, was also blanketed in white.

Mountain temperatures dropped below freezing, allowing the snowflakes to accumulate on the ground. However, the winter wonderland may be short-lived, as temperatures are expected to rise to around 6°C in the mountains later in the day, while the rest of the country will see temperatures between 11 and 15°C.

The meteorological institute forecasts that mountain areas might experience more snowfall on Friday and Saturday, extending this unusual May winter scene.
