Spring Awakens: Průhonice Park’s Masterpiece of Landscape Design Bursts into Bloom

Michal Šula

In a stunning display of natural beauty and artistic vision, the historic Průhonice Park has once again transformed into a springtime wonderland. This masterpiece of landscape architecture, spanning an impressive 250 hectares, stands as a testament to the creative genius of Arnošt Emanuel Silva-Tarouca, who established the park in 1885.

What sets Průhonice Park apart in the annals of landscape design is its distinction as the last freely conceived landscape work of its kind. Silva-Tarouca enjoyed nearly five decades of creative freedom, bound only by his imagination and strategic planning, allowing him to nurture and shape his vision for almost 50 years.

Today, the park stands as a living museum, boasting an extraordinary collection of both native and exotic woody plants. With approximately 1,600 varieties, it ranks among the most significant dendrological collections in the country.

Visitors can now witness the park’s spring transformation, as it comes alive with a vibrant display of seasonal blooms. Daffodils, grape hyacinths, and magnificent magnolias paint the landscape in a palette of spring colors.
