The Czech Republic is set to experience a dramatic shift in weather conditions as meteorologists warn of powerful thunderstorms sweeping across the country. The Czech Hydrometeorological Institute (ČHMÚ) has issued alerts for severe weather, particularly in the eastern half of Bohemia and the Bohemian-Moravian Highlands.
Thursday afternoon and evening are expected to be the peak times for these localized storms, characterized by their stationary nature or minimal movement. This lack of mobility increases the potential for concentrated rainfall in affected areas.
The weather warning will be effective from Thursday noon until 9 PM, covering Prague, South Bohemia, Liberec, and Hradec Králové regions. Parts of the Vysočina, Central Bohemia, Ústí nad Labem, Pardubice, and South Moravia regions are also included in the alert.
Meteorologists anticipate “sporadic occurrences of locally strong thunderstorms,” primarily accompanied by torrential rain. Rainfall could reach up to 40 millimeters in a short period. Wind gusts around 70 kilometers per hour and hail are also possible in some areas.
While thunderstorms dominate the forecast for most of the country, South Moravia faces a different weather challenge. The region is bracing for extremely high temperatures, expected to peak around 33°C. This heat warning is in effect from Wednesday noon until further notice.
As the Czech Republic prepares for these intense weather conditions, residents and visitors are advised to stay informed about local weather updates and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
